Why Montenegro? Montenegro is a true hidden gem of the Mediterranean. With its crystal-clear waters, ancient stone towns, and breathtaking landscapes, it’s a place that instantly stole our hearts. Whether you’re a lover of history, nature, or simply enjoy relaxing by the sea, Montenegro offers something for everyone.

What to do and see while you are here

  1. Kotor: Located along the Bay of Kotor, this UNESCO World Heritage site is a must-visit. Its ancient stone walls, winding streets, and medieval churches make it feel like stepping back in time. For those feeling adventurous, climb the 1,350 steps up to the Kotor Fortress for breathtaking views over the bay!
  2. Budva: Known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife, Budva is one of Montenegro’s liveliest coastal towns. Take a stroll through the Old Town (Stari Grad), with its cobbled streets and charming squares, or relax on one of the nearby beaches like Mogren or Jaz.
  3. Perast (home to our wedding celebration!!!): This picturesque little town on the Bay of Kotor is a peaceful retreat with stunning baroque architecture. From Perast, you can take a short boat ride to the tiny island of Our Lady of the Rocks, where a beautiful church and museum await.
  4. Sveti Stefan: One of Montenegro’s most iconic landmarks, this small islet has been transformed into a luxury resort. While the island itself is private, you can admire it from the nearby beaches or have a meal at one of the restaurants overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
  5. Lake Skadar: For nature lovers, a visit to Lake Skadar is highly recommended. It’s the largest lake in the Balkans and a haven for birdwatchers. You can take a peaceful boat ride on the lake, explore the local vineyards, or visit the historic monasteries dotted along the shore.
  6. Durmitor National Park: If you’re up for a little adventure, head inland to Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rugged mountain landscapes, glacial lakes, and deep canyons. This is also the home of the Tara River Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world, where you can try white-water rafting!

What to Eat: Montenegrin cuisine is a delightful mix of Mediterranean and Balkan influences. Be sure to try some fresh seafood along the coast, especially grilled fish and octopus. Don’t miss the Njeguški pršut (smoked ham) and Kacamak (a traditional dish made from potatoes, cheese, and cream). Pair your meals with local wines from the nearby vineyards, particularly those from the Skadar Lake region.

We hope you’ll take the time to explore this beautiful country while you’re here.
